The waters are warmer and the fishing is hotter!

As May temperatures heat up the bays and estuarial area waters expect the fishing in general to be good, some days excellent with the right conditions.
June marks the official beginning of summer and with that, we welcome summer vacationers to our area! We have been having an excellent spring fishing season catching really nice inshore and offshore fish species. Our client list continues to grow with families looking for something fun to do with the kids. A wonderful way to introduce your family to the pristine waters of Apalachicola Bay or surrounding Gulf waters is to see it from a boat for a day or two of fishing or touring during your vacation with our family friendly native guides. We love kids!

Inshore… The inshore fishing was on fire during the months of April and May. We expect the “catching” trend to continue. Our target fish this month are Spanish Mackeral, Speckled trout, Redfish, Black Drum, Tripletail, Pompano and Flounder just to name a few of the many species that we catch this time of year. If you’ve ever been out triple tail fishing and were able to snag one of those fighting rascals you know you have to go out and do it again. I’ve got great news for all you tripletail enthusiast- The tripletail are here! Expect May and June triple tail fishing to be good through out the month.
Speckled Trout, Tripletail, Redfish, Black Drum and Spanish Mackeral are the hot ticket for the inshore angler this month…
Don’t limit yourself to one species of fish guys, go for the slam!

In the last few days we have been spotting a few tarpon rolling as they're just beginning to enter our area waters. Average size tarpon in the area is around 100 lbs, but note there were several caught last year at 175+lbs on the side of our boats. We're expecting fantastic tarpon fishing again this year as large bait pods have started gathering in our near shore gulf waters and into the Apalachicola Bay!

For anyone wanting to try a little night time fishing, we do offer FLOUNDER GIGGING charters for the Apalachicola area waters.

Offshore.... May winds have been a little windier than normal this month but as June gets closer our winds typically calm for offshore, deep sea fishing. Expect to catch Grouper, Snapper, Triggerfish, King Mackeral and Cobia for a mixed bag of reef dwellers while bottom fishing or flat lining our area reefs and wrecks.
June 1st will officially open Red Snapper season this year and from the looks of it, it's going to be a great red snapper season...

We have been fishing a lot lately, feel free to browse around our website and look at our huge photo album with over 50 pages of fantastic fishing pictures (bragging rights) of our wonderful clients with their prize catch.

We Know/Go fishing!

When can we book you a charter?

The economy is looking up and thankfully our boats have been fishing a lot lately! If you find yourselves in our area and want to go fishing give us a call or an email. We highly encourage you to book in advance but occasionally we will have boats open for a day or two here and there in our weekly schedules. Of course some weeks are more booked than others especially holidays or special event weekends. Last year some of you were told, “sorry, we’re booked” so you were unable to go fishing with us during your vacation because our schedules were full, and you hadn't made prior arrangements. That would tell you one thing-we are good at what we do! We fish a lot! Please book your trip early to insure that this doesn’t happen to you. It’s as simple as a phone call or an email to insure that you have a boat waiting at the dock, gassed up, iced up and ready to go fishing.

If you’re looking for experienced, family friendly, native guides give us a call 850-653-2622.

We’d love to take you fishing in our backyard!

April 09 fishing report
Monday, April 13, 2009

With spring fishing season upon us, this is the month for fishing! The excitement is in the air (or should I say in the water) and we can hardly wait to go fishing everyday.

Inshore…. April fishing is typically pretty good, some days down right excellent. Bait fish are everywhere inside and outside the Apalachicola and St. Joe Bay. Spanish mackerel are just starting up and following the bait pods through out the area waters. Speckled trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, pompano, tripletail and black drum are among the daily list of targeted inshore species.

Anyone that was fortunate enough to fish with us in the past when the spring fishing was on; knows exactly what we are talking about… Grab your hats and come on; it’s getting Very Fishy around here!

Want to try something unique, try a nighttime flounder gigging charter out of the Apalachicola Bay with our experienced native guides.

Our guides have generations of knowledge of fishing in their back yard!

Offshore.... We have been offshore fishing a couple of times in the past month and in general the fishing has been excellent in action, but hard to get away from the red snapper. We are anxiously awaiting the June 1st opening of the red snapper season and pray that they (the snapper) haven’t been reading the news of their impending fate. Now for grouper, triggerfish and rest of those bottom dwellers we so love to catch, it’s been pretty good too. Both Gag and Red Grouper when you’re able to get through the wall of red snapper to the bottom have been biting well.

With the economy on the blink at this time we do have a few more boats open this year as compared to years past. What does that mean for you? We have boats open at this time, of course we are hoping this will change as we get closer to our peak summer vacation season. As always, we would love for you to come join us to enjoy our wonderful inshore fishing for speckled trout, spanish mackerel, redfish, flounder, tripletail and the never ending list of fish species entering our bay. Or for those wanting to get in on the deepsea/offshore fishing targeting bottom dwellers such as red, gray snapper, gag and red grouper and a multitude of the many offshore reef fish just entering our area gulf waters daily.

Even with the economy, we have had a boat load of calls and emails for opening as well as people checking available dates during their vacation, but we are not completely booked as of yet. That has a tendency to change as the word gets out about our excellent inshore and offshore fishing during this time of year. We still highly suggest you make your fishing arrangements early to insure you will have your preferred captain available to you during your vacation.

If you’re looking for experienced, family friendly, native guides give us a call 850-653-2622 or drop us an email info@BookMeACharter.com

We’d love to take you fishing or touring in our back yard!

February Fishing Forecast!!

February Fishing!

Preparing for Spring Fishing Season!

What can you expect to catch?? Well, there’s no telling this time of year…The good news, it’s usually not a hard head catfish when the waters are cool…

Just bait up and give it a try, from shore or from our boats!

We have had some really mild weather the past few weeks with temperatures in the 70's some days, which makes for a beautiful day on the water. February expect to catch speckled trout however this is the only month in the year that speckled trout are out of season. We don’t mind at all throwing them back; its great fun just to catch them.

Inshore… The fishing should be on and off- excellent when the temps are up and slow when a cold front is in or approaching the area due to a barometric change. On those good days when the weather and conditions are right, grab your rod and hang on or better yet-give us a call. When the warm temperatures and bright sun warms the water it seems to confuse the fish into thinking its spring. The redfish should be biting well along the edges of the flats and oyster bars close to deep water. The cuts and passes should be off and on for bull redfish as they usually are this time of the year. If you’re looking for big reds it’s always worth a try, drift fish or anchor out, live bait works best, dead bait (shrimp or cut bait) or artificial soft or hard plastics, of course working with the falling or rising tide of the moving currents.

March expect an influx of bait into our area waters, and of course with bait comes game fish following them which includes pompano, Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, flounder and redfish to name a few. Expect warmer weather, warmer water and hungry fish from a long winter…

Offshore… We have only had a couple trips offshore because of the weather conditions but on those trips the captains are reporting fair-good fishing from 3-8 miles out, bottom fishing for grouper, triggerfish and other reef dwellers. Red snapper are out of season until April 15th, so all those red snapper have to be thrown back. If you can get your bait to the bottom before the snapper can devour it- hang on, the grouper are hungry. We are primarily fishing with frozen bait because live bait during this time of year is hard to come by. We have also been trolling up some nice grouper.

Of course fishing varies from day to day and where you catch fish today- you may not get a bite tomorrow. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the fish have moved away, it could simply mean that the conditions aren’t right for them to feed at that time, the tide, the wind the currents or the water clarity could be a turn off for them. So don’t rule out a spot because you didn’t get a bite the last time you were there.

Note, the entire month of February Speckled Sea Trout are out of season and illegal to keep. We don’t mind throwing them back- most of the fun in fishing, is the catching anyway.

Our phones have been ringing and emails coming in as people are trying to firm up their vacation dates with a fishing trip or two during their stay in our beautiful area.

Our calendars are looking good for the upcoming spring/summer season!

At this time we do have days open, so if you find yourself in our area and want to go fishing give us a call, we would love to hear from you.

Happy fishing wishes for the New Year!
By: Sandra Allen
Book Me A Charter Guide Service
Apalachicola, FL

In 2009 we look forward to another wonderful year of fishing with the best; we look forward to fishing with you!

Happy New Year!

Now that all the decorations are down, and the leftovers put away (in one way or the other), its time for a little rest and relaxation. To me there’s nothing more relaxing than to go fishing!

Now to the fishing report……

Inshore… January fishing should be on and off- excellent when the temperatures are up and slower with a cold front or barometric change. On those good days when the weather and conditions are right, grab your rod and hang on. When the warm temperatures and bright sun warms the water it seems to confuse the fish into thinking its spring. The speckled trout have been biting well along the edges of the flats and oyster bars close to deep water. The cuts and passes have been off and on for redfish as they usually are this time of the year. If you’re looking for big reds it’s always worth a try, drift fish or anchor out, live bait works best when you can find it using fresh dead bait (shrimp or cut bait) or artificial. Slow down your presentation, the waters are cooler thus the fish will be slower to react to your bait…

We have been catching some really nice speckled trout, black drum and sheepshead in and around the channels, oysterbars and occasionally at the head of the bay depending greatly by the water depth and tide.

Of course fishing varies from day to day and where you catch fish today- you may not get a bite tomorrow. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the fish have moved away, it could simply mean that the conditions aren’t right for them to feed at that time. So, don’t rule out a spot because you didn’t get a bite the last time you were there, try the same spot on a different tide.

Note: February Speckled Sea Trout are out of season and illegal to keep. We don’t mind throwing them back- most of the fun in fishing, is the catching anyway.

Offshore… Weather is always a big factor in offshore fishing during the colder months. My best advice for fishing offshore in January would be bundle up, watch the weather and pick your days. North winds in our area can be very deceiving, nice slick and calm beginnings can have you motoring at idle speeds to come in so that you are not splashed by running directly into the wind on the way home. Keeping all this in mind and preparing before leaving out can make for a wonderful day in the big water. Try trolling up some big grouper as well as bottom fishing for grouper, snapper, and trigger fish only a few miles from shore as most of the bigger fish have come in closer to land as typical for this time of year. Note: Red Snapper are out of season and although plentiful in our area they must be returned back to the water unharmed.

Our phones have been ringing as people are trying to firm up their vacation dates with a fishing trip or two during their vacation. Our calendars are looking good for the upcoming season. All you procrastinators are fair warned we are starting to book up for the season…

In closing we would like to extend our New Year wishes that all your resolutions are successful and hoping for a safe, happy and healthy New Year and through the year!

We look forward to fishing with you in 2009!

As always if you’re looking for experienced, friendly, native guides give us a call or send us an email!

"Fish On!!!" (You will hear this a LOT this month!)

October’s cooler weather is finally here. When the nights starts cooling, the inshore fishing starts heating up for the fall fishing season.

Some of our homeowner friends from St. George Island and Cape San Blas have beautiful 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units open and ready for our fishing buddies. If you are looking to get away for a weekend or spend a nice relaxing week of fishing and lounging on our secluded beaches, this is the time of year to do it. Rental rates are lower and the weather is normally a little cooler this time of year. Give us a call if you see that you may be able to sneak away for a couple of days or a week or two and enjoy our beautiful fall season mixed with wonderful fall fishing.

Now, to the Fishing Report……

Inshore… If you follow fishing I'm sure you have heard the term "bait run", or "mullet run". Well let me say this, they're here the recent flood waters from the storms have flushed the bait into the bay. Shrimp, finger mullet, greenies, and pogeys are throughout the bay swimming in pods in varying sizes. Where there are bait pods there will be hungry fish feeding on them. We have been catching some really nice inshore species of fish and expect it to only get better as the season progresses. October, November and into December are prime fall fishing months for schooling Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder and Black Drum. Fall fishing is always some of the best fishing in the year. Our nights are getting longer and cooler thus the water temperatures are dropping. Anyone who knows fishing, knows that this combination is what triggers fish to do their thing and feed up for the upcoming winter season.
Cooling waters create hungry fish!
We do offer flounder gigging charters on the Apalachicola Bay. We will be targeting flounder on their fall run which started mid September and goes through October depending on the weather and water temperatures. Look for some fantastic fall flounder gigging charters!

Offshore... We have been catching some really nice Red Snapper, Grouper, King Mackerel and Cobia. Our captains are reporting good offshore fishing in water 45-100 ft. in depth, from 6-20 miles offshore. We expect good offshore fishing to continue through the fall season. Remember Recreational Red Snapper season closes October 31 in state waters…

Of course many of you have already called and reserved your boats for the upcoming season. We really appreciate the fact that you took heed in our earlier fishing reports and reserved early. At this time we do have days open, but don’t expect our guides to be open long. Call or email us for availability or to reserve one of our native guides.

If you’re looking for experienced, family friendly, native guides give us a call 850-653-2622 or drop us an email to info@BookMeACharter.com

We’d love to take you fishing in our back yard!
